Busted! Don’t Believe These Accounting Myths!
When you think of an accountant, you probably picture someone who wears glasses, has a living room filled with uninteresting and voluminous books, crunches numbers relentlessly, and gets up early or works till late (which means no fun parties!). While some of this is true, a lot of it is just a bunch of misconstrued notions.
Accountants, like many other professionals, can sometimes find it difficult to strike a work-life balance but there is no single means of defining the life of an accountant.
At Williamson Accounting, we have stereotypes thrown at us all the time and have decided that it’s time to put things right. To do that, we have listed some of the most popular myths about accounting and accountants and given you a peep into their lives and helped you get to know them better.
Myth 1: Accountants are boring and asocial
It is often believed that accountants are boring people with shy and timid personalities. They do not know how to make new friends, are party-poopers, and do nothing that is attention-worthy. In fact, the truth is the exact opposite. We have incredibly smart accountants with charming personalities who are fun to work with. They also help businesses save money and increase profits.
The work culture of our company ensures that our accountants enjoy a healthy balance between professional and personal engagements. They are mostly found looking for reasons to organize parties and get-togethers.
Myth 2: They work 24x7
Let us begin by saying that it is humanly impossible. They primarily work on auto-pilot; their extensive academic and training period has made them experts. They use this expertise to create and analyze financial statements, provide advice on asset and liability management, assess and minimize tax liability, and help one to manage budgets. In doing all this, they are mostly assisted by trainees and interns. This leaves them with a lot of time to socialize and on top of that, they get to flaunt their accountancy skills!
Myth 3: Accountants are mathematical geniuses
An accountant is responsible for calculating and managing finances. They work with numbers and financial data all day long, but that does not mean that they are great mathematicians. They rely on calculators for heavy (sometimes even for easy) calculations. This allows them to utilize their time better to meet our client’s deadlines. Not to mention, the human mind can never reach the accuracy that technological advancements can, at least in terms of calculations.
